An indoor table tennis table should never be used outdoors even when the sun is shining, as the the chipboard could absorb moisture and swell. Furthermore the indoor table tops are not UV resistant and could fade, respectively lose their good playability. Aluminium composite tops as well as melamine resin top are used for outdoor tables, both are weather- and waterproof. The composite tops used by Kettler and Joola are made from plywood boards covered with aluminium, the melamime resin boards Cornilleau use on the other hand, are just made of one very dense and hard material only.
In our experience, both varieties are very weatherproof and the aluminium composite tops are only slightly superior regarding durability. - playing characteristics / thickness of the table tennis table:
